Ghasem Batamuntu

Ghasem Batamuntu (1952) was born and raised on the east coast of the USA. He plays soprano saxophone, flute and percussion with The Mirror Conspiracy and has played with the band since the beginning of 2009. In the past, he has played together with a.o. Archie Shepp, Pharaoh Sanders and Gil Scott-Heron and has inherent feeling to free jazz and unorthodox approaches to composition and arrangements. This lead him in teaching at Berklee and becoming a fellow at the Califorinia State University, ending up in Europe. Here he explores boundries in jazz and world music. This lead him to become the leader of the infamous Nova Ghost Sec'tet, travelling around the world, performing at renown jazzfestivals. Inspired by John Coltrane and new and spiritual elements of music, he currently is the band leader of his groups the Nu Nova Compound and The M.P.C. Factor E, combining improvisation and jazz with elements of poetry, dance and visualisations. He also performs spoken words and poetry with the legendary Surinamese-Dutch jazzband Fra Fra Sound.
